Erosion Mitigation on Lake Michigan Shoreline
Why Use Sandbags Installed by Carpe Sandbags, LLC?
The water level of Lake Michigan is at record-setting high levels. This means that during storms, the breaking waves eat away at the base of the dunes, promoting erosion. We have found that placing several large sandbags at the base of the dune has been an effective form of erosion mitigation.
What Will Carpe Sandbags, LLC Do?
We will work with you to develop the best solution to protect your shoreline. Usually this involves placing a three-bag-tall row of large sandbags at the base of your dune. Each property is a little different, but we will work with you to create an effective solution that can be implemented in a timely fashion.
Sandbags at the base of the dune has a very low environmental impact, compared to steel structures or rocks and boulders. Sandbags at the base of the dune has been an approved process as a minor project from governing authorities.
Nothing done at the shoreline will not stop rising lake water levels, but sandbags can mitigate the damage caused by storm events as the water levels rise.
